Preparing your car for winter is something most vehicle owners will do, but what about spring? It’s just as important to prepare your car for the warmer months as it is for icy roads and cold mornings. Winter can be harsh on your car, so spring is the perfect time to get your car back to its best.
Spring clean
Don’t reserve spring cleaning just for your closet – your car needs it too! Winter roads are often slushy, salty and dirty – leaving your car looking and feeling grubby as the spring months creep in.
Spring is a great chance to wash away the grime and get your vehicle looking polished. Washing your car is a lot more enjoyable when you don’t have to shiver while you clean. Give your mats a vacuum, get a new air freshener and clear out that litter.
If you prefer to take your family car to the car wash, choose somewhere that does an undercarriage wash. Dirt can build up in the deepest crevices including the bumpers, wheel wells and under the hood.
Check your lights
Winter driving can take its toll on any car – and that means your lights too. When you’re getting your family car spring ready, check all of your lights for cracks, corrosion or dirt. Often, a quick clean is good enough, but if you do notice damage, get your lights repaired.
What about your brakes?
We all want to keep our family safe when driving – so what better time than spring to check your brakes? Ideally, you should check them every six months or after 10,000km (whichever comes first).

Change the oil
Whatever time of year it is, checking your oil regularly is important to keep your car running smoothly. Winter can be hard on your engine so changing your oil in spring can make sure your engine lasts longer and lessen the chance of a breakdown.
Replace your blades
Snow, rain, ice and sludge can really take a toll on your wiper blades during the winter months. If you’re starting to see streaks or notice worn or cracked wipers you should replace your blades as soon as possible. It’s easy enough to replace them yourself – just make sure you measure your blades to get the right ones for your car.
Check your air-con
When you’re getting your family car spring ready, never forget to check the air con. When your air con fails on a long family trip or weekend away, you’ll wish you’d tested it sooner. Run it for about 10-15 minutes to see if it works – if it smells funny it could be time to change the air filter.
