Make The Most Out Of Your Test Drive

There is nothing more exciting yet at times daunting than finding the perfect vehicle to suit your individual needs. At Mantello Suzuki Roxburgh Park, we aim to make finding your next Suzuki as seamless and simple as we can, starting with your test drive.

According to research by Dealers Rater, only 55% of car buyers test drive ONE vehicle before making a decision to purchase, and an additional 22% drive only two – shocking, right?

We know your first test drive can be a little nerve-wracking – we get it! Just like a first date or sending your kids off to their first day of school it tends to get the heart pumping. But it doesn’t have to be.

It may be the moment (or moments) you decide on the car of your dreams, so we’ve compiled our top tips to ensure you’re getting the most out of your test drive at Mantello Suzuki Roxburgh Park.

Do Your Homework

Save yourself the in real life leg work by doing some true, hard homework. This means before coming to our dealership, do your research upfront. A survey from J.D. Power suggests that new car shoppers often take four months to research and buy their car. We recommend perusing our site at the different models you’re interested in and jot down the key features of each vehicle that align with your car needs.

We also recommend (although you don’t have to) book your test drive in advance, that way you come prepared with a list of questions to ask the Sales Team upon your arrival. It’s the best way to maximise your time whilst you’re in the dealership. If you feel like taking notes, we won’t judge!

Get In & Get Out

No, that’s not the way to buy a car BUT you do need to go in and out to ensure that the dimensions of the car suit you! Head bumping and windshield hitting is not a preferred state to be in from the get-go.

You probably go in and out of your current model at least twice a day – sometimes more! You must make sure you’re comfortable getting in, out and that you can adjust the seats and mirrors to suit your needs – no one needs a sore neck when checking for oncoming traffic!

Take the time to get in and out of your new Suzuki multiple times during your test drive. Understand the range of motion of the seats, steering, mirrors, back seats and more to ensure moving through your vehicle is as simple as seamless as you want it. Remember, you’re the best judge on whether a particular model is sized right for your family.

The More The Merrier

A Mantello Suzuki, we like to opt for the philosophy of the more the merrier. Yes – you read that right. Bring the kids, bring the booster, bring them all. This is going to be the only way you can test that the vehicle you’ve been dreaming of can cope with the morning school rush to hockey equipment to growing families and more.

Whilst you’re enjoying the new benefits of your latest ride, the kids can also ensure they’re comfortable too. Plus, you’ll get an idea to see how your future car fits with your future family (think five years down the track).

Ask Questions – Lots of them!

When you’re purchasing a car, you need to ask the right questions, ultimately, the best benefits for you.

These could include something like:

How is the handling of the vehicle?

Is there sufficient storage ad cargo space?

What is the head/leg room like in the back seat?

What technology is included?

The latter being one of the most important questions you could ask, with the average age of cars on the road today is roughly 11 years old, say industry experts at IHS Markit. If you haven’t purchased a new vehicle in a while, make sure to ask about the technological features like intuitive safety features and more.

Plus, ensure to try pairing your phone with the vehicle of your choosing as it will give you a clear indication of how you’ll live and drive day to day.

Drive It Like You Bought It

There is never a ‘right way’ to test drive a vehicle, the best approach is to think about the way you drive your vehicle daily and make sure that the vehicle you’re thinking of purchasing, can handle it. Make sure you make yourself comfortable from the outset – adjust all seats, mirrors, the whole lot to ensure you’re ready to embrace the entire drive. These small experiences can often make or break the test drive, so be sure to make yourself comfortable!

Next up, drive it in all sorts of environments. Don’t limit yourself to smooth town terrain, but opt for rough roads, carparks, speedbumps and winding roads. This way you can test the cars capabilities for yourself. The more scenarios – the better! Even try it on part of your daily commute if you can! Some salespeople will allow you to bring the vehicle home to try it in your carport as long as you have the appropriate paperwork.

Get A Second Perspective

Sometimes two brains are better than one. Speak to a trusted friend partner or family to help decide if this is the perfect vehicle for you. Triple check that the driver’s seat satisfies your comfort, that it holds your favourite safety features and power options.

Nine in ten Australians spend an average of 90 minutes a day commuting. We hope we can assist in finding the perfect vehicle for you at Mantello Suzuki Roxburgh Park.
